Wooden Dolls House

.

History of the Wooden Dolls House.

.

Minature wooden homes date back many thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians.  The first Wooden Dolls Houses in recent times date back about 5 – 6 hundred years, when wealthy people commissioned tiny minature copies of their own houses complete with tables, chairs, rugs and all the other room accessories were added to add more detail.

Finally tiny little dolls completed the finished look. The early Dolls Houses were made by skilled craftsmen and because of the time and effort, they cost an awful lot of money and were seen a very much of a staus symbol and a sign of wealth. The price of the dolls house became more afordable to people when they started to mass produce them.

The main difference between the dolls houses of today and these early minature houses, is that the early minature houses were entirely for the enjoyment of adults. Children wer never allowed to play with them because of the risk of breaking the delicate accessories. It was several hundred more years before dolls houses were  mass produced, bringing the prices down and making them more affodable as a  gift or toy for children to play with.
